Kart Racing at No Problem and beyond.

An easy way into road racing is karting. Karts used to be fun vehicles - now, serious road racers from kids to Grand Prix World Champions are karters. Yes, five-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher was a FIA Karting World Champion before he drove cars! Others such as Jacques Villeneuve, Paul Tracy and Jarno Trulli are karters.

125cc Shifter karts use motocross engines/6 speed gearboxes from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and European manufacturers to produce 2.5G racing machines that can accelerate to 60 in 4.5 seconds and top 120 mph.

The current 125cc record at the 1.8 mile Grand Bayou Circuit is 1:15.5 Only a few cars have recorded times faster than this including two Porsches and the current lap record holding Ferrari 333SP driven by Belgian ex-F1 pilot, Eric van de Poele.

Karting can be cheap, too, with competive used karts from $3,000. Tires are $150 for four; wheels $25 each; gears $20, etc.

If you are interested, just go to one of the races and check 'em out.
